Lysoway Therapeutics lands a $3.4 million grant from The Michael J. Fox Foundation
Lysoway Therapeutics landed a $3.4 million grant from The Michael J. Fox Foundation to advance its TMEM175 agonist program for Parkinson's disease.
Unlike traditional treatments that focus on managing symptoms, Lysoway is developing small molecules designed to improve lysosomal function (the cell's natural waste and recycling system), which researchers believe may play a key role in slowing disease progression.
TMEM175 has emerged as a promising target because genetic studies have linked it to both Parkinson's risk and disease onset. Here’s more: https://jlsfund.substack.com/p/michael-j-fox-foundation-backs-lysoways
INmune Bio reported new Phase 2 clinical trial data indicating that its experimental Alzheimer’s drug, XPro1595, may help protect important brain tissue associated with memory and thinking.
The company used an advanced MRI scan to measure the health of the brain’s white matter, which acts like the brain’s communication network, helping different parts of the brain send signals to one another. Damage to this network is common in Alzheimer’s disease and is believed to contribute to memory loss and cognitive decline.
After 24 weeks of treatment, patients who received XPro1595 showed significantly better white matter health than those who received a placebo. The benefit was even stronger in patients with higher levels of inflammation, which is becoming an increasingly important target in Alzheimer’s research. Autobahn Therapeutics reported positive Phase 2 topline results for elunetirom in bipolar depression, with the drug demonstrating rapid, statistically significant antidepressant effects that were sustained throughout the study.
The company said patients receiving elunetirom experienced meaningful improvements in depressive symptoms as early as two weeks, while maintaining a favorable safety and tolerability profile.
Elunetirom works through a novel mechanism designed to improve brain energy production and neuroplasticity rather than targeting traditional neurotransmitter pathways. The results come just days after the FDA granted Fast Track designation to the program. Did you know that a collaboration between scientists, mathematicians, and consciousness researchers is attempting to quantify the psychedelic experience?
The effort centers on DMT and aims to develop a mathematical framework that can measure and map altered states of consciousness rather than simply describe them.
To accomplish this, researchers are using an advanced intravenous DMT protocol that extends the drug's normally brief effects into sessions lasting several hours. By combining those prolonged experiences with observer-based mathematical modeling, the team hopes to transform subjective psychedelic experiences into measurable data that could provide new insights into consciousness and, potentially, the nature of reality itself.
